Position Summary
The purpose of the role is to be the data quality lead for Bank of the West Data Governance. The role reports directly to the Data Governance Officer for BOTW and is responsible for establishing the enterprise and regulatory data quality monitoring and reporting program to ensure adherence to the bank’s data quality standards. This includes development of BOTW standardized and executable business rules that are applied systemically across bank data sources, engagement and education with data consumers, owners & stewards to implement and enforce adoption of enterprise quality standards, and design, deployment, and management of quality reporting through process, technology, communication.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Manages data quality team, which consists of internal analyst resources third party vendors provided contractors, and consultant resources. 
  2. Provides leadership, motivation and establishes a teamwork environment for the data quality team; and advises, influences, and coaches team members in the development and achievement of project & program goals.
  3. Partners with data stewards and data owners within the corporate and line of business functions to define and document data quality rules, targets, and standards. Establishes change controls over quality standards and works with functional and IT partners to enforce within the organization
  4. Works with IT resources to turn business quality rules into technical requirements and manages testing and certification activities with data stewards and owners.
  5. Partners with Enterprise Data Steward and owners to develop, enhance, and manage governance dashboarding capability on quality metrics. Defines user experience standards and partners with IT to implement across data governance reporting.
  6. Implements and manages training & education in the data quality space with users to ensure use and understanding of governance quality program deliverables in monitoring and reporting space.
  7. Supports data governance office in the development of data policies, standards and procedures related to data quality activities.
  8. Supports data governance office in communication and delivery of requirements related to internal inspection and external auditors 
  9. Facilitates and provides data quality subject matter expertise within data governance working groups.
  10. Oversees the development and implementation of detailed project and work plans for data quality monitoring and reporting efforts within the data governance organization.  Manages the planning, documenting and execution activities for the projects; along with tasks, budgets, timelines, and project staffing to successfully complete projects on a timely basis and within budget.  Develops documentation to support the project planning and implementation process.
  11. Leads and provides support to project teams by facilitation/attending project meetings, responding to assigned tasks when due. 
  12. Advises on milestones as needed for reporting to appropriate management levels and communicates budget and status milestones as defined for the projects.
  13. Recognizes project issues and concerns requiring resolution in a timely and professional manner and addresses them with management and appropriate staff members.
Other Job Functions

  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to speak to varying levels across the organization
  3.  Development and championing of cross-functional engagement within data governance and to other business / IT groups
  4. Performs other duties as assigned. 


  • Bachelor’s Degree- Required
  • Master’s/Advanced Degree- Preferred
  • Understands basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching and process execution.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of data Governance, data quality, and program management experience.
  • Requires 7 years minimum prior relevant experience.
